Who We Are
Formerly, Davis & Leonardy, Counterflow formed into a full scale marketing agency in 2014. Founders, Geoff Davis and Ryan Leonardy, both action sport enthusiasts at heart, first teamed up in 2008, taking on small-scale marketing projects on the side. Both sharing the adrenaline of winter-time surf and the outdoor life style, it was very apparent early on that there was something greater to be explored in the marketing frontier for the two of them. At the time, Ryan was teaching graphic design at Coleman College and Geoff was working on his MBA in marketing at San Diego State. After seeing early on success with their small business clients, Geoff and Ryan set out on their own and formed Counterflow Marketing. The combination of the number-crunching and metrics out of Geoff and the ability for Ryan to put their ideas into illustration and design truly made something special.
Rooting from their action sports backgrounds, Geoff and Ryan sparked the entrepreneurial fire and took on a highly ambitious project for just the two of them: The Winter Snow Show, a 3 day, 2 night ski trip which included a rock concert and round-trip bus transportation for several hundred participants. Built by the two of them from the ground up, Geoff embarked on partnering up with one of San Diego’s biggest radio stations, FM 94/9, and bringing in major brand-name sponsors to capitalize the trip including, Coors Light, Jack Daniels, Bear Mountain, Kind Bar, Red Bull, and in the years to follow, Deep Eddy Vodka, Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Dirty Tequila, and The Verant group. Ryan set everything into motion through the digital facets, developing a contemporary, high-energy feel for the brand, allowing for the message to resonate strongly with the target demographic. After the 3rd annual trip, moving into the 4th, The Winter Snow Show has become a well-known brand in Southern California.
Through the business networks derived from the goodwill of their projects, the newly found agency, Counterflow has thrived off of bringing businesses together and exploring avenues that were not thought to be possible. Counterflow’s core competencies include, product/brand development, lead generation, web development, social media marketing, software development, digital advertising, graphic design, photography, videography and sound production.
